B-05Questions

Questions, answered straight.

How QuoteKit really works, from trying it without an account to what is recorded when a customer signs.

Do I need an account to try it?

No. Open the app and an example quote is already loaded. Change anything, watch the total update, and preview it as your customer would see it. You are only asked for an email and password at the moment you save.

What does the Free plan include?

Three new quotes a month, the full builder, all ten trade templates, the profit panel, the customer link with approve-and-sign, the activity log and the dashboard. Quotes sent from a Free account carry a small "Made with QuoteKit" line on the customer view.

Does my customer need an app or an account?

No. They tap the link you send and the quote opens in their phone's browser. They can approve it, ask for changes or decline right there.

Can my customer see my costs or markup?

No. The page your customer opens is built on the server from a copy of the quote with your costs, markup, profit, and activity log removed. Those numbers are not hidden in the page: they are never sent to it.

How does the signature work?

The customer types their full name and draws a signature with a finger or mouse. People who cannot draw can sign with their typed name instead. QuoteKit stores the signature image, the name, the date and time, the amount approved and the IP address, and locks the quote.

Is an approval legally binding?

QuoteKit records who approved what, when, and for how much, and keeps that record with the quote. Whether that is enough for your kind of work depends on your state and your contract terms. QuoteKit is a quoting tool, not legal advice: for large or unusual jobs, ask an attorney what your paperwork should say.

What happens after a quote is approved?

You get an email, the status changes to Approved, and the quote locks so it cannot be edited by accident. If the job changes you can reopen it to edit. That clears the approval, and the earlier approval stays in the activity log.

Can I offer upgrades the customer can pick?

Yes, on the Crew plan. Mark a line as Optional and your customer sees it as a tick box. The total updates as they tick, and the approved total is worked out again on the server from what they chose.

How does it handle sales tax?

You set one tax rate per quote, to three decimal places (Connecticut's 6.35% works), and mark each line taxable or not. A percentage discount is shared across taxable and non-taxable lines before tax is worked out. Knowing what is taxable for your trade in your state is up to you.

Can I ask for a deposit?

On the Crew plan you can show a deposit as a percentage or a dollar amount, with the balance due when the work is finished. QuoteKit shows the deposit on the quote. It does not collect the money.

Does QuoteKit send invoices or take payments?

No. QuoteKit builds estimates, sends them and records the approval. It does not invoice, take card payments from your customers, schedule jobs or do your books.

Can I get a PDF or a paper copy?

Every plan can print the customer view. Pro and Crew can also download a letter-size PDF with your header, the items, totals and terms, and the signed approval once there is one.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It was designed for a phone first: large buttons, large type, and the total and the Send button stay at the bottom of the screen while you add lines.

How exact is the math?

Everything is calculated in whole cents. Each line is rounded once, and discount, tax and deposit are each rounded once on the quote, so the numbers on screen, on the customer's phone and in the PDF always agree.

Are the template prices real quotes?

No. The templates are starting points with placeholder prices so you are not staring at a blank page. Change every rate and cost to your own before you send anything.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Plans are month to month. When a paid plan ends the account goes back to Free and your saved quotes and signed records stay where they are.

ENDYour turn

The quickest answer is the tool itself.

Open the builder and try the example quote. It takes no account and leaves nothing behind unless you save.
