Responsible play

EdgeBoard is a model and its record. It is for information and entertainment, and it is not betting advice.

What EdgeBoard is

EdgeBoard is a scoreboard for a model. It works out a win probability for each game from past scores, publishes it before the game, and then shows what happened. It is made for people who like to see whether a number holds up.

It is not a betting service. It shows no betting lines and no stakes, it links to no sportsbooks, and it does not tell anyone what to do with the numbers.

What a probability is not

A probability is not a prediction of who will win. “65%” means the model expects that side to lose about 35 times in 100 games like this one. Those losses are not errors. They are the other 35.

The model also does not know about injuries, trades, starting pitchers, goalies or weather. People who set betting lines do. Nothing on this site should be read as an advantage over them.

If you choose to bet

  • Decide what you can afford to lose before you start, and stop there. Treat it as the price of entertainment, not as an investment.
  • Set a time limit as well as a money limit.
  • Never bet to win back what you lost.
  • Do not bet when you are upset, tired or drinking.
  • Keep betting money apart from money for rent, bills and food.
  • Sports betting is illegal for anyone under 21 in most US states, and not legal everywhere. Know the law where you live.

Signs it has stopped being fun

  • Betting more than you planned, or for longer.
  • Hiding how much you bet from people close to you.
  • Borrowing, or using money meant for something else.
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to stop.

Why we show the misses

A record that only shows wins teaches people to trust a number too much. This is the whole record, as of today.
